This
character appears nowhere but in the Cats Video, as a young "alter-ego"
of Gus, the Theatre Cat. When you look at the Video
for the first time, you can't avoid to notice a contraddiction between what
the cats say, about every name never belonging to more than one cat, and the
existence of two Asparagus, one of whom is shortened to Gus. The reason is
that Sir John Mills, the elderly actor who plays Gus
character, could not play that part also in the various circumstances when
the cat must dance and jump, so the character was "divided" in two.
The younger Asparagus, performed by Tony Timberlake, is not much more than a
chorus dancer: he partecipates to the group choreographies and he is one of
the grown-up cats, more or less same aged than Skimbleshanks,
Jennyanydots and Jellylorum.
